Built in 1925, Freedom Tower was originally the headquarters of the Miami Daily News and Metropolis. From 1962 to 1974 it served as an immigration station for Cuban refugees. Immigrants were processed here and basic medical, dental and relief aid were provided. Freedom Tower was added to the US National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
