SummerStage is an annual event that was founded to promote the arts. It offers a variety of free music, dance, comedy and other artistic performances that span genres, culture and generations. Most events are held in Central Park, although there are some performances happening in the boroughs.
Some of the free performances this year are: Melody Gardot, Living Colour, Gil Scott-Heron, The Daily Show and Friends, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Baaba Maal.
There are some events that require advance tickets. All proceeds go to City Park Foundation to support its free year round events.
Some of the benefit concerts include: Simon & Garfunkel performing duets with Aimee Mann, Dar Williams, Willie Nelson, Ricky Skaggs and more, John Butler Trio, Gov’t Mule and Hot Chip.
SummerStage is one of the best free events New York City has to offer. If you love music, dance or any other kind of performance art, New York City is the best place to be this summer!
