Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, New York City

It’s November and that means one thing in New York City: The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Since 1924, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been marching through the streets of New York City and has become an American tradition. It is broadcast live on television and more than 50 million people watch the parade every year.

Marching in the parade are hundreds of acts including: marching bands, drum lines, dance troupes, pop and superstars, floats, cast members from Broadway performing songs from their shows, and much more.

Some of the most exciting things to see in the parade are the gigantic balloons of some of America’s most beloved characters. The balloons are inflated the night before the parade in what is called the “Thanksgiving Eve Inflation Celebration”.

This year the inflation celebration happens on November 24th from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm near the Museum of Natural History, between 77th and 81thst Streets between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. The Thanksgiving Eve Inflation Celebration is open to the public.

The parade is always held on Thanksgiving Day, which is Thursday November 25th this year. It beings at 9:00 am and winds down around 12:00 pm.

According to parade organizers, the best places to watch the parade are on Central Park West between 61st and 72nd Streets. It’s best to get there early for a good viewing spot as more than 3.5 million people are expected to attend this year’s event.
