Montreal Jazz Festival
July 1-12, 2009: The Montreal Jazz Festival is the largest jazz festival in the world. Two million people flock to Montreal every year to see both up-and-coming stars and the biggest names in the business. Many of the shows are free at this incredible music event.
Montreal Reggae Festival
June 26-28, 2009: The Montreal Reggae Festival, or Le Festival International Reggae de Montreal, is a three day reggae concert around the end of June. 2009 headliners include Frankie Paul, Stur-Gav and Sound System.
Just For Laughs Comedy Festival
July 16-26, 2009: Put on by the company that makes the funny prank videos shown on airplanes and late night TV infomercials, the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival headlines top names in the comedy business to get the crowd rolling. Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Cosby, Jeff Foxworthy, Tim Allen, Jon Stewart? Everyone comes to enjoy the fun and check out the new talent. The best part is that many performances are free.
July 21 – August 2, 2009: Get your otaku on at the Otakuthon festival for anime, manga and gaming fans. There are plenty of contests for people of all persuasions…make sure to bring your favorite cosplay outfit!
International Fireworks Competition

World Science Fiction Convention 2009 – Anticipation
August 6-10, 2009: The 67th WorldCon is going to be held in Montreal. First held in 1939, this annual convention is the place to be for science fiction lovers. 2090 guests include Ralph Bakshi and Neil Gaiman.
Fantasia Film Festival
July 9-27, 2009: One of the largest genre film festivals in North America, Fantasia got its start screening Japanese and Hong Kong films in 1996.
Montreal World Film Festival

Montreal Highland Games
August 2, 2009: Come and see elite athletes compete in this Scottish Festival on the North American highland games circuit. More than just big guys throwing bigger objects, the festival is a way to experience traditional Scottish culture, including food, music, dancing and, of course, beer. The festival is held at the George Springate Sports Centre.
