Miami is known for a lot of things – its beaches, its night life, its food. But did you know it also has some great museums that offer free admission?
Miami has a lot of museums that cover a variety of interests such as fine art, modern, art, history, railroads, the planets and more.
A lot of these museums are either free of offer free admission on certain days. Here is a list of museums that offer free admission all the time or on special days.
The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum
The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum has a lot of Latin American and 20th century American art.
Bay of Pigs Museum
The Bay of Pigs Museum is dedicated to the attempt of the CIA and trained Cuban nationals to overthrow the Cuban government in 1961.
The Centre Gallery is a small gallery located on the downton Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College. Its exhibits usually display contemporary art.
The Holocaust Memorial is located in Miami Beach and is dedicated to the history of the holocaust during World War II.
Jewish Museum of Florida
The Jewish Museum of Florida is free on Saturdays. It’s located in Miami Beach in what was once Miami Beach’s first synagogue.
The Wolfsonian-FIU is free Fridays after 6:00 pm. According to its website, it is “…a museum, library, and research center that uses objects to illustrate the persuasive power of art and design, to explore what it means to be modern, and to tell the story of social, historical, and technological changes that have transformed our world.”
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)is free (by donation) 7:00 – 10:00 pm the last Friday of every month and is dedicated to contemporary art.
Miami Art Museum
The Miami Art Museum is free the second Saturday of every month. It is dedicated to contemporary art.
Gold Coast Railroad Museum
The Gold Coast Railroad Museum is free the second Saturday of every month. It has more than 30 historical trains and quite a few interactive exhibits.
Miami Children’s Museum
The Miami Children’s Museum is free from 3:00 – 9:00 pm the third Friday of every month. This museum offers activities for visitors of all ages, including adults.
