If you’re going to be in New York City this summer, be sure to take a day trip out to one of New York’s most famous amusement parks and boardwalk – Coney Island!
Coney Island is famous for a lot of things, including an amusement park, beaches, boardwalk and hot dogs. There are Ferris wheels, bumper cars, arcades, sun, surf, sand, food, drinks, entertainment and more. Plus, there are fireworks every Friday night during the summer.
Here are some of fun things Coney Island has to offer:
Coney Island is probably best known for its hotdogs. Nathan’s Famous has been serving hot dogs on Coney Island since 1916. The hot dogs were so popular, people like Al Capone and Cary Grant were regulars there. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt even served Nathan’s Famous hot dogs to the Queen and King of England!
The Coney Island Museum is a treasure trove of Coney Island’s interesting history and artifacts. For $5, you can see all kinds of wild and wacky items, see and read about the stories of Coney Island and learn all about the world early 19th century live attractions.
The Wonder Wheel amusement park on Coney Island is home to the Wonder Wheel – am iconic Ferris wheel built in 1920. There are more than 20 rides for adults at the amusement park including bumper cars and the thunder Bolt. There are also two arcades Admission to the park is free but tickets must be purchased to ride the rides.
Want to lie on the beach or splash around in the ocean? Bring a towel and some sunscreen – Coney Island is the place to be! One of the great things about Coney Island’s beaches is that they all face south so they get great sun exposure all day.
Coney Island is located at the southern end of Brooklyn and is accessible by public transportation.
