Tips on Traveling with Kids

To bring you some great tips on traveling with children, we interviewed Debbie Dubrow from

Jazz Hostels: What are the benefits of traveling with kids?

Debbie: Our lives are very scheduled during the school year, between school, extracurricular activities, meetings, birthday parties and all the other activities that crop up, there isn’t much time to connect as a family. When we travel, we try new things together, and that helps us get to know ourselves, and one another better. Traveling is great for the kids – even if they aren’t old enough to understand all the history or cultural nuance of a destination, they start to understand that people can look different, do things differently, and even speak another language. Instead of seeming scary, those differences are interesting and fun to discover.

New York City can be an expensive place to visit when staying in hotels, but there is an alternative: family hostels!

Hostels are best known for offering dormitory accommodation to travelers, but most hostels also offer private accommodation too.

Jazz Hostels has 6 budget hostels in Manhattan, offering both private rooms and dormitories.  Our family private rooms have a double bed and a bunk bed and can accommodate up to 5 people.
