It can be the small things that make traveling easier.
Traveling is such an amazing experience. But when you’re in a new place with a limited amount of things with you, it’s the small things that make for smoother problem solving. Here are five simple tips that can make traveling just a little easier.
1. Zip-Up Plastic Bags
You never know when you’re going to need a secure, waterproof container on your trip. Packing a few zippered plastic bags (such as Ziplock) in different sizes is a great way to be prepared and they don’t take up any room in your luggage.
If you plan on doing laundry while traveling, you will most likely need coins for the laundry machine. Many laundry facilities have change machines in them but only take smaller bills. Find out from the place you’re staying in where you can do laundry and what kind of coins/bills you might need.
It can also be helpful to find out if individual packets of laundry detergent are available. If not, individual packets of detergent in your luggage so you won’t have to buy a large container of it when you do laundry.
3. Steam Ironing
If your clothes are just a little too wrinkled to wear and there isn’t an iron around, the steam from a hot shower can work wonders.
4. Air Compression Bags
Can’t fit everything into your backpack or suitcase? Want to travel with a smaller backpack or suitcase but with everything that fits into a larger one? Try using air compression bags. They are special plastic bags to put clothing in that allow all the air in the tightly sealed bag out thus compressing the clothing in it to a fraction of it’s original size.
5. Rain Gear
Rather than bringing an umbrella, which even small ones add weight and take up space, pack a thin, plastic rain poncho. They are light as air and don’t take up any room. In fact, they are enough to fit in a pocket when folded up making it easy to walk around your destination without the added weight of an umbrella.
