There are so many reasons to travel, whether it’s for a long weekend, a week, a month, a year, or a lifetime. Here is part four in a seven post series on why you should travel.
Learn Something about Yourself
There are so many wonderful reasons to travel. It is fun, exciting, and delicious and offers experiences you can’t have if you just stay home. Because traveling puts us in to new situations, new cultures, new smells and sounds, there are times we can feel out of our comfort zones.
Being outside our comfort zones is a good thing. We can learn a lot about ourselves when we don’t feel the same security of familiar places, people, language and culture. How we react to a new place can teach us a lot about ourselves.
Often people find they are a lot braver and stronger than they thought they were. Shy people learn how to talk to strangers, people who are afraid to be in a place where they don’t understand the language realize that there are other ways to communicate, cultural differences don’t seem as big when we get to know people, and adventures don’t seem as scary or intimidating.
Traveling is one of the best ways to learn who we are and help find our strengths and work on the things we would like to improve about ourselves. Traveling to new places also means traveling within ourselves – discovering the maps inside of us, as well as in the world around us.
