It’s the time of year again for one of New York City’s biggest celebrations – Chinese New Year!

Chinese New Year is an exciting time in New York City’s Chinatown. There are some fantastic events, lots of decorations, special foods and their world famous Chinese New Year Parade.
Chinese New Year is also called Lunar New Year. It is February 10th this year. There will be a firecracker ceremony and cultural festival on the 10th to celebrate. Chinatown’s famous Luna New Year Parade will be held on February 17th.
Chinese (Lunar) New Year is the most important holiday out of all the traditional Chinese holidays. There are twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac and every year falls into the sign of one of these animals. This year will be the Year of the Snake. You can read more about the Chinese New Year here.
The Lunar New Year parade is an exciting event with traditional and modern singing, dancing, music, dress and costumes, dragons, drums, marching bands and more.
There will also be street vendors selling food and goodies to eat while enjoying the festivities.
