The Brooklyn Botanic Garden turns shades of pink this spring as the cherry blossoms bud, open and drop from April 2 through May 1. The cherry blossom festival is based on Hanami, the Japanese tradition of celebrating and enjoying the beauty of the cherry blossoms.
Hanami is a special time at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens as they have the largest collection of cherry trees outside of Japan. There are more than 42 varieties of cherry trees to see at the Botanic Garden.

The month long cherry blossom celebration ends with Sakura Matsuri – a festival celebrating the cherry blossoms as well as Japanese culture, traditions and food.
Sakura Matsuri is April 30th and May 1st. There will be more than 60 performances and events taking places including music, dance, taiko drumming, tea ceremonies, workshops and Japanese DJs.
