Many people are surprised to learn that New York City has tons of free events. You can find free events throughout the year but summer is the best time for free outdoor music, dance, comedy and theater.
Here are five great, free concerts being held in New York City this summer.
Summerstage
Summerstage is a performing arts festival with more than 100 events in 17 parks all over New York City and it’s boroughs and a lot of the events are free. Events include artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Martha Graham Dance Company, Ifetayo Youth Ensemble, and the SummerStage Theater.
Broadway in Bryant Park
Broadway in Bryant Park are held every Thursday from 12:30 pm to – 1:30pm in Bryant Park. Performers from Broadway’s most popular shows perform their biggest hits.
Harlem Meer Performance Festival
The Harlem Meer Performance Festival takes place every Sunday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Musicians play jazz, Latin, Cuban, Caribbean, blues, R&B and more.
Performances are held lakeside on the north end of Central Park outside the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center.
Met in the Park
Enjoy free, live opera in the park with the world famous Metropolitan Opera with their summer series Met in the Park. They will hold six performances this summer in all five boroughs.
Sunset on the Hudson
Sunset on the Hudson is a great summer music series on the Hudson River. Head over to Hudson River Park’s Pier 45 on Friday nights for live music 7:00 pm.
