With hundreds of indoor and outdoor skating rinks to choose from and long cold winters, Montréal is an ice skater’s paradise. Some outdoor skating rinks have free admission and almost all rinks offer skate rentals. Be sure to check with the rinks for their months and hours of operations before heading out.
Here are a few of Montréal’s most popular outdoor ice skating rinks:
Beaver Lake on Mont Royal
Located in Mount Royal Park, Beaver Lake is open to ice skaters in below freezing temperatures. There is also a 2,500 square meter refrigerated rink next to the lake. Skates are available for rent and admission is free.
Lafontaine Park
Located in Montréal’s Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood, Lafontaine Park is a popular destination for locals. The outdoor ice skating areas in Lafontaine Park are made up of ponds connected by ice paths. There are also two rinks open for ice hockey.
Bonsecours Basin Skating Rink
Bonsecours Basin Skating Rink is located in the Old Port section of Montréal. To make skating even more fun, this outdoor rink offers a different theme to skate to every night – Classical Mondays, Retro Fridays, etc.
