Every summer hundreds of people gather on Mont Royal for the Montréal Tam Tam Jam. Tam-Tam is the French word for hand drum and people bring all kinds of hand drums (like djembes) to play together.

The weekly gathering is a festive event and attracts not only drummers but dancers, families, venders and more. There is even an ongoing mock medieval battle (using foam padded weapons).
Don’t worry if you don’t have a drum. Most people go to listen to the rhythms, dance and enjoy the peaceful and communal atmosphere. The Tam-Tam Jam attracts people of all ages and many people go to sit back, relax and enjoy the environment. It’s common to see people playing Frisbee, kicking around soccer balls (footballs), sunbathing as well as playing guitars and other instruments.
The Tam-Tam Jam gathering meets in Jeanne-Mance Park on Mont Royal, beside the angel statue every Sunday and runs from the beginning of May to the beginning of September. Best of all it’s free!
