It’s time to take advantage of Montreal’s snowy weather and get outside for some winter fun! Right in the heart of the city, Mount Royal has more than 11 miles (18 km) of skiing and snowshoeing trails and with inexpensive rentals available on site, it’s the perfect way to spend a crisp and bright winter’s day.
Mount Royal is exceptionally beautiful any time of the year, but there is something magical about it when it’s covered in snow. Cross-country skiing is a great way to explore this white wonderland.
The park’s extensive cross-country skiing trails are great for beginner and intermediate skiers alike.
Cross-country ski rentals are $10.00 for 1 hour or $15.00 for 3 hours.
Rentals are available Sunday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Ski rentals are available from December 18, 2010 through March 14, 2011.
If you’ve never been snowshoeing, now is the time to try it out. It’s a lot of fun and great exercise.
Snowshoe rental fees are $8.00 for one hour or $13.00 for three hours. Trecking poles are also available for rent at $4.00 for one hour or $6.00 for three hours.
For a really special excursion, sign up for a guided, nighttime snowshoe trek aroung Mount royal. For only $15, you’ll get the guided tour, snowshoe rentals and hot chocolate.
Guided, nighttime snowshoe treks are available from January 8 to March 12, 2011. They are held on Saturdays from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Reservations are required.
If you’re not sure about skiing or snowshoes, Mount Royal has some great winter hiking trails, which are free to explore. The trails are plowed and well marked.
