New York City’s Empire State Building is a beautiful and classic example of art deco architecture. For 40 years after it was built, it held the record for the tallest building in the world.
Above the 102nd floor observation deck, there is a door that is leads to a terrace that was built to be used as a docking station for Zeppelins (airships).

After several attempts to dock airships at the top of the Empire State Building, it turned out that it wasn’t practical and was, if fact, quite dangerous. The last attempt was in 1931 and soon after the docking station was closed and NBC took over the tower to use it as their broadcasting station.
