It is customary to tip at restaurants and cafes in North America – even when you have to order at a counter. While some people might find having a tip jar out stressful (do I tip, do I not tip), tip jars can be the best things since sliced bread
In North America, tip jars are in just about every restaurant and cafe where you have to order at a counter. If you’re just ordering a coffee drink, dropping the change you receive from paying with cash is a nice gesture and it helps you out too.
Tip jars are a great place to drop your change in so that you’re not schlepping heavy coins around all day. No more coins constantly making noise in your pocket, no more wallets bulging with coins.
Tip jars are a win-win invention – you get rid of your change and the employees (who are likely making minimum wage) get a little extra income!
(Tipping is so ingrained in society that it is seen as extremely rude to ‘stiff’ or not tip a server. It’s a bit different when you have to order at a counter but dropping your change into the tip jar is a nice gesture, especially if you have a large or complicated order.)
Here are some very funny and clever tip jars to enjoy. Which one is your favorite?
